Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack made him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
